Open and export .fdx scripts in your browser
Scripty reads and writes .fdx — the standard file format for professional screenplays — without uploading your script anywhere.
What is a .fdx file?
A .fdxfile is an XML-based screenplay document. Unlike a PDF, it stores each line as a typed element — scene heading, action, character, dialogue — so any editor that understands the format can preserve your script's structure exactly. It is the format most producers, contests, and collaborators expect.
How to open a .fdx file in Scripty
Open Scripty, choose Open from the menu, and drop in your .fdx file (or browse for it). Parsing happens entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Your scenes, dialogue, and formatting appear ready to edit, and the script autosaves locally as you continue writing.
What Scripty preserves
All seven standard screenplay elements, inline bold, italic, and underline, plus title page details. Scripty's SmartType also learns your character names, locations, and transitions from the imported script and suggests them as you type.
Exporting back to .fdx
When you are done — or any time in between — export your script as .fdx to continue in other software, submit to a contest, or share with a collaborator. You can also export to PDF, Fountain, and plain text.
Known limitations
Scripty focuses on the writing itself. Production features from desktop software — revision colors, locked pages, script notes — are not carried through an import. For drafting and rewriting, everything you need survives the round trip.
